A Message To
Our Customers

At Fresh Prep, we are committed to delivering you the best quality food, in the most responsible manner.

In light of growing concerns about COVID-19 we wanted to share with you some precautionary measures Fresh Prep is taking to ensure the health of our customers and our team.

The Nature of Our Business

Fresh Prep operates in a closed and controlled environment which allows us to employ the highest safety standards.

Our ingredients come directly from reputable suppliers and are never exposed to the public as they are in a grocery store. The few people who come in contact with our product are trained employees, who are required to follow Good Manufacturing Practices (GMP) and rigorous food safety measures.

Food Safety Measures We Are Taking

Fresh Prep’s production facility is certified by the Canadian Food Inspection Agency and we apply a high level of food safety precautions to protect against the transmission of any illness. This includes:

  • Staff in food production areas being required to wear non-surgical masks, smocks, hairnets, disposable gloves and sleeve protectors.
  • Strict handwashing procedures.
  • Thoroughly cleaning and disinfecting cooler bags. Bag cleaning is done on a separate floor from our ingredient processing area.
  • We have connected with our suppliers to ensure we have no exposure to any of the majorly affected locations in our supply chain. We also review our upcoming menus to ensure we have diversified suppliers and the ability to change ingredients to mitigate any impacts.
  • Delivery drivers are asked to use sanitizer after each delivery; clean any touchpoints in their vehicles with disinfectant wipes; are limited to accessing only the loading bay in our facility; and to stay home if they are experiencing symptoms of illness.
  • Our delivery drivers are being instructed to practice no-contact delivery. This means they will limit their contact with our customers by only knocking or ringing the bell, then place delivery bags in front of your door.

Taking Care oF Our People

In addition to extra precautions for our customers, the health and safety of our employees is also a top priority. We have enabled the following policies to protect our people and take precautionary measures including:

  • All Fresh Prep employees who can work from home will be working from home over the next few weeks to eliminate any unnecessary risks.
  • Monitoring of symptoms in our staff with protocol to send them home with pay if any flu symptoms are present. If any employees are quarantined because of COVID-19 they are eligible to receive up to 14 days of paid time off to ensure they have the time needed to return to work in good health.

Fresh Prep is committed to providing the best quality food, service, and care to our customers, team members and community.

Additional FAQ

What food safety measures does Fresh Prep take to prevent the spread of illness?

Our meal kits are prepared by a combination of both machinery and people. We follow official Good Manufacturing Practices (GMP), Food Safe requirements, and are certified by the Canadian Food Inspection Agency (CFIA) to ensure our facilities and food handling processes are in compliance with food safety standards.

We provide ongoing training and supervision for food safety measures with our production staff to ensure all guidelines are being followed. Examples of these measures include, but are not limited to food production staff wearing appropriate attire including non-surgical masks, smocks, hairnets, gloves, and following strict hand washing procedures.

What extra precautions are you taking to ensure food is prepared in a manner that prevents the spread of COVID-19?

We employ our standard food safety precautions and food handling standards as part of our core operations to protect against any viruses or transmission of sickness.

We perform regular deep cleans of our facility, as per the strict guidelines of health officials and the highest standards of sanitization we employ at Fresh Prep.

At the beginning of each shift, we review the hand washing practices as part of our Good Manufacturing Principles (GMP's), specifically around increasing the regularity of handwashing at a minimum of once per hour.

We require vigorous handwashing after using the washroom; handling raw foods; handling allergens; touching face or body; handling garbage, compost or recycling bins; transitioning between handling different ingredients; discarding any items that have come in contact with a non-food contact surface.

We have staggered shifts, breaks, and have added extra delivery days and shifts to ensure staff have a safe physical distance between other team members. Team members also have designated washrooms and breakrooms for each shift.

ALL STAFF are required to wear PPE including a mask while working and walking throughout the facility, as well as gloves, hair net, smock and other PPE in production areas.

Is Fresh Prep taking back recycling and picking up cooler bags?

Yes, drivers will pick up cooler bags, ice packs, and recycling.

Returnable items include the following:

-Cooler bag

-Zero Waste Kit including cups and lid

-Rinsed soft plastics*

-Rinsed Fresh Prep salad or other Add-ons packaging*

*Please note we are unable to accept items that were not originally sent in your Fresh Prep delivery such as other household recyclables.

Drivers are provided with PPE including masks and gloves when on shift, and have been supplied with commercial-grade sanitizer.

As an additional precaution, drivers are now placing all cooler bags into additional receptacles once they are picked up. Due to space constraints taken up by this safeguard, we regret that not all bags may be collected. If your bags are not picked up, simply hold onto them until your next order.

Will my delivery be affected in the coming weeks?

We are making changes to our delivery operations to accommodate both increased demand and to facilitate social distancing within our facility.

Saturday Deliveries: We are moving a portion of our Sunday deliveries to Saturday. This will give drivers more space when loading the bags and will help ensure we can accommodate demand on our busiest delivery day. Check your Delivery Schedule to see if your order has been moved.

Driver Protocols: You will see that drivers are wearing gloves when making deliveries. Drivers have also been supplied with commercial grade sanitizer to use on their gloves in between deliveries. Drivers will be picking up cooler bags and ice packs, but no longer accepting bags containing paper or plastic recycling at this time.

As an additional precaution, drivers are now placing all cooler bags into garbage bags once they are picked up. Due to space constraints taken up by this safeguard, we regret that not all bags may be collected. If your bags are not picked up, simply hold onto them until your next order.

What is being done to prevent the potential spread of illness via my reusable cooler bag?

As part of our regular sanitation procedures, we thoroughly clean and disinfect the bags when they return to our facility. Cleaning is done in a separate area from our ingredient processing area to avoid any cross contamination.

Our delivery drivers are being instructed to practice no-contact delivery. This means they will limit their contact with our customers by only knocking or ringing the bell, then place delivery bags in front of your door.

Will Fresh Prep have any problems supplying ingredients or add-ons?

For the most part, Fresh Prep’s suppliers are continuing operations, however during these unprecedented times, some ingredient changes may occur and some of our local add-on suppliers may no longer be able to supply us, or in limited quantities. To accommodate these changes we will either swap ingredients or full recipes, We will keep an updated list of changes below:

Ingredient Updates

There are no ingredient or recipe swaps at this time.

Was Fresh Prep affected by any recent recalls or food safety concerns?

Fresh Prep will continue to closely monitor the situation, make adjustments as appropriate and communicate with our customers as the circumstances evolve and more information becomes available. See the Canadian Food Inspection Agency website for more information.
