Cooking Directions

Cook Rice

  • Rinse and drain brown rice in a fine mesh sieve.
  • In a small pot, whisk together 1¼ cups water with rice seasoning.
  • Add brown rice and bring to a boil.
  • Reduce heat to low and cover with a lid.
  • Cook for 18–22 minutes or until grains are tender.

Prepare Ingredients

  • Wash napa cabbage and green onion.
  • Chop green onion into thin rounds.
  • Roughly chop pickled ginger into ½ inch strips.
  • Cut avocado in half and remove pit.
  • Slice into ¼ inch slices and scoop flesh out with a large spoon.

Prepare Salad

  • In a large bowl, whisk together 1 tsp. olive oil, Chinese sesame paste, sauce blend, sesame oil, mayonnaise, and maple syrup until smooth.
  • Add cabbage, carrots, and half of the green onion.
  • Toss to combine and set aside.

Prepare Tuna

  • Place sesame seeds on a large plate and set aside.
  • Drain and pat dry tuna with paper towel.
  • Heat 2 tsp. oil over medium-high heat in a large non-stick skillet.
  • Brush all sides of tuna with oil, and season to taste with salt and pepper.
  • Gently press all sides of tuna in sesame seeds to coat.
  • Once oil is hot, add tuna and cook for 1 minute undisturbed.
  • Using tongs flip each piece and cook for 1 minute.
  • Remove from heat and set on plate.

Finish + Serve

  • Divide salad between two serving bowls, placing it on one half of the bowl.
  • Garnish salad with pickled ginger.
  • Place rice on opposite side of bowl and top with remaining green onion.
  • Top each bowl with sliced avocado.
  • Slice tuna on a slight diagonal widthwise into ½ inch slices and place over centre of each bowl.
  • Enjoy!
